Happy Days

I've occupied this corner of YES since we first launched the newsletter. Next issue, I'm pleased to say, Lynn Edmonds will take it over, along with all the other responsibilities of being LWRA president.

These are happy days at LWRA. Lynn brings with her a quarter-century's experience in direct mail fundraising that will serve our clients well. So too will some new staff members and some recently promoted veterans, all of whom have helped define an extraordinarily high level of client service. As for me, I'll remain involved in a variety of special projects to benefit the firm and the nonprofits that depend on us.

Speaking of quality, this issue of has three important articles filled with tips for achieving it. Perhaps no name is more associated with planned giving than Robert F. Sharpe. And so we are pleased that he accepted our offer to share insights on the use of direct marketing to enhance planned giving support. Also Account Supervisor Chad Lucier looks at file segmentation and the steps you should take to achieve the greatest success with both active and lapsed donors. Finally, Senior Account Supervisor Linda Bistany takes you for a trip down that long donor highway, her metaphor for an annual mailing program plan.

I have one more treat to offer. Senior Account Director Lisa Smith has a wonderful understanding of how to make Major Donor programs work. Her secrets are yours for the asking. Just check the box on the reply device!

Final thought: This firm is the product of the collective effort and intelligence of its staff, to whom I offer my deepest thanks. Continuing to work with them, and to stay in touch with so many friends and clients, will make the days ahead for me truly happy indeed.

Best wishes.
